The 1500hd crew cab, which returns for 2005 after a one-year hiatus, can tow up to 10,200 pounds. Even the plush denali tows 8,100 pounds. yet all sierras deliver a smooth, comfortable ride among the full-size pickups. Even compared to more recently introduced or re-engineered pickups from ford, dodge, and nissan, the sierra rides and handles very well. Although nominally classified as light duty or 'half-ton' trucks, the 1500s offer payloads ranging from 1,215 to 2,040 pounds, and tow ratings from 4,100 up to 9,000 pounds, depending on equipment. That's all the truck most consumers will ever need. engine choices include a 4. 3-liter v6, 4. 8-liter v8, and 5. 3-liter v8. Available only as a crew cab with a 6-foot-6-inch bed (instead of the standard 1500 crew cab's 5-foot-8-inch bed), the 1500hd hauls 3,073 pounds with 2wd, 2,766 pounds with 4wd, and tows 10,200 pounds. Power is provided by the same 6. 0-liter v8 that's used in the 2500hd/3500; but the 1500hd should ride more smoothly than the heavy-duty trucks. base models come with abs, air conditioning, cruise control, am/fm/cd audio, an attractive chrome grille molding, a chrome rear step bumper, and 17-inch chromed steel wheels. The sle2 package adds fog lamps and interior upgrades such as cloth-upholstered power-adjustable front seats and redundant controls on the steering wheel. slt badges are reserved for the priciest sierras, those with an interior modeled after gmc luxury utilities. These include as standard leather upholstery with 12-way power and heated front seats, two-person driver memory, heated windshield washer fluid system, locking differential, remote start, towing package, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and a bose audio system with subwoofer. base power for all gmc hds is the latest 6-liter v-8 with an iron block for durability and variable valve timing for efficiency; it rates 353 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque (312 hp for gvwr above 10,000 pounds). The sole option is a 6. 6-liter duramax turbodiesel, at 365 horses and 660 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission offered, and on diesels it adds $1,200 to the engine's roughly $7,200 tab. sierras can be set up for anything from a night on the town--moonroof, satellite radio, navigation--to a year on the ranch or fleet garage with snow plow prep, integral trailer brake control, remote start, and power takeoffs. Increased frame stiffness allows a smaller gap between the cab and body, and combined with the more aerodynamic windshield and narrower door gaps, makes the sierra much quieter than its predecessor. the box sides are deeper by an inch-and-a-bit, the tailgate has a optional lock and assist for closing it with less effort, and the cargo management option fits rails to three sides of the bed; these can be used for tie-down points and to carry a variety of tool or utility boxes. The stoutest sierra hd's can tow 13,000 pounds with the new 2. 5-inch receiver hitch, and the new dual-element mirror and trailer brake control options will lower the stress level. most hd pickups have external dimensions close to each other and the sierra is similar; more than six-and-a-half feet wide outside and room for a 4x8-foot sheet of building material to ride flat in the long bed. Adjustable pedals and a tilt wheel are available, though the wheel does not telescope and is offset slightly from the seat centerline. a regular cab has room for a xxl-sized gent and space behind the seat for his coat and boots. Extended cabs have articulated side doors that swing 170 degrees for easier loading, the windows in those doors roll down flush, and the seat cushion folds up for more storage. If there's a drawback it is the quantity of similarly-shaped and labeled small buttons that butterfingers may have some issues with. The 2013 sierra hd denali comes standard with heated and cooled front seats, leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and rear camera. Polished aluminum 17-inch wheels are standard on sierra hd denali duallies and are available on sierra hd slt duallies. Denali is gm's answer to ford's king ranch and ram's lariat longhorn. Different hood trim, lights, grille, wheels and ruby red badges distinguish the gmc from the chevrolet. changes for 2013 are minor. A 6. 0-liter gasoline v8 is standard, rated at 360 horsepower in 2500 models and 322 hp in everything else. It isn't quite as powerful as the competition's gas engines. the 6. 6-liter turbodiesel with 765 pound-feet of torque (more than twice the gas engine's) is competitive with ford's super duty at 400 hp and 800 lb-ft and ram's 350 hp and 660-850 lb-ft. The vortec 6. 0-liter v8 and 6-speed automatic comes standard, the duramax diesel with a stronger allison 6-speed automatic is optional 8,395). from the least expensive version, plan on adding $2,000-$3,000 to step up from regular cab to extended cab, or from there to crew cab.
