2007 chevrolet silverado 2500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, the most car-like of the heavy-duty pickups. introductionthe new, 2007 chevy silverado hd completes the phase-in of chevrolet's redesigned full-size truck line, with new frame, engines, transmissions, interiors, and sheetmetal that requires no badge to tell it apart from a gmc.  silverado hd pickups are about real work and serious play. The 2500-series is often used like a second car and charged with pulling the boat or trailer on weekends, while the 3500 usually sees hauling and pulling duty on a routine basis and tows the fifth-wheel rvs and six-horse trailers. And in the power department, the 6-liter gas v8 is the strongest standard engine, and the 6. 6-liter is the most powerful turbodiesel. The standard six-speed automatic one-ups the others' and only gm includes onstar. With close to 100 derivatives in cab/box/trim/drive choices and option sheets to fill a page, determining the right one requires due diligence and patience. Three cab styles are available, regular, extended, crew, along with two box sizes. Cab and chassis models, suitable for fitting a custom work or tow body on, are available.  trim levels vary from vinyl-floored work truck models through lt to plush ltz, the latter using a unique interior design.  the basic wt comes with six-speaker am/fm stereo, abs, air conditioning, tire pressure monitors, 40/20/40 vinyl front bench with armrest, and six-speed automatic with tow/haul mode and dual overdrives.  lt versions are split in lt1 and lt2 by package. To a wt the lt adds auto-dimming mirror and compass, cruise control, driver lumbar, locking seat cushion storage, leather-wrapped steering wheel, electronic shift 4wd, and chrome wheel trim. At about $1800 the lt2 upgrade adds cloth upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, fog lamps, and audio controls on the steering wheel.  top trim ltz includes an upscale dashboard design, bose audio system with subwoofer, locking differential, remote start, leather upholstery with 12-way power and heated seats in front, two-person driver memory, trailer package, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and heated windshield washer fluid system.  the standard engine is a new iron-block 6-liter v-8 with variable valve timing and 353 hp; on models with gvwr greater than 10,000 pounds the engine is derated to 312 hp. The duramax diesel option, bumped slightly in power to 365 horses and 660 lb-ft of torque, remains optional, and emissions upgrades and sophistication have driven the charge past $8,000 7195 for the engine and $1200 for the required transmission). The 8. 1-liter big-block and all manual gearboxes have been dropped.  variety characterizes the silverado option palette, with working gear such as integrated trailer brake controller, dual alternators on diesels, remote start, and snow plow prep package to luxury features like satellite radio, heated seats and a moonroof. Many options are interrelated so check everything carefully.  safety equipment includes frontal airbags, front seat belt pretensioners (a first for hd pickups), abs, and onstar. walkaroundfor this new generation the chevy silverado and gmc sierra do not share near-identical appearance. Lamps and trim vary but so do fenders, boxes and the hood; mechanical bits are shared. Dual-rear-wheel pickups now have a hydroformed sheetmetal pickup box with integral overfenders and better paint finishing.  with the big chrome crossbar and bow-tie logo it's immediately known as a chevrolet and maintains visual relationships to the 1500 silverado. The hood could have been drawn by a snowmobile designer, with upswept shelves at the sides ending in plastic trim louvers (that serve a vent function on diesels) and vortec (gas) or duramax (diesel) badging. Label the new look evolutionary refinement rather than a design revolution.  useful new features include an optional tailgate lock and lift assist, dual-element towing mirrors, a cargo management system with multiple adjustable tie-down points (500 pounds per) and a wealth of dealer-supplied toolboxes, and a 2. 5-inch receiver hitch capable of towing 13,000 pounds on the top-rated models.  the silverado hd matches up against other heavy-duty pickups in most dimensions as they all carry the proverbial 4x8 sheet of plywood flat in long-box models. Either level is a marked improvement over the previous generation, as even the faux wood trim is well-done and the cabin is squeak and rattle-free.  for recreational towing the luxury version may be the choice, but the pickup level gives up nothing in build quality, function (it has a second glovebox, the luxury does not) nor appearance; we did note interior color has an effect on how inviting any version is. Seats are easily adjusted and supportive, with a split bench in back and bench with locking storage below or buckets in front. Those truckers who add myriad lights and accessories will note a lack of dedicated switch blanks while others will appreciate the cohesive design.  the mid-size extended cab back seat is suited for smaller adults and kids, and for better access the side doors now swing 170 degrees for easier loading in tight locales. And the windows in those small doors now roll down (completely) for more comfort and venting options. The moonroof cover is a solid material on most trim levels, while the luxury version has a semi-transparent shade that might require a baseball cap in bright conditions.  all controls are plainly laid out, the only possible nitpick being the number of similarly shaped and sized black buttons, some of which large-fingered individuals might find hard to push without hitting the adjacent one as well. Instrumentation is complete and responsive. The higher box sides haven't compromised rear visibility, and the new towing mirrors are a big improvement. driving impressionthe silverado hd makes marked gains in ride quality similar to those enjoyed by the new 1500 versions. Again, it is the most car-like of big pickup trucks.  an hd silverado drives heavy, as in a solid feel and deliberate control inputs. It is confident empty or with a maximum load on board, and the added frame stiffness and body build quality mean there is much less sensation of a separate cab and box. Pogo-sticking or bobbing is dependent on road surface and wheelbase and ultimately hard to avoid everywhere, but such motions are now well-controlled and unlikely to redistribute improperly secured cargo.  yet the hd is still a truck, designed to carry anywhere from a ton up, so the predominant cornering attitude is understeer, or push. Two, it tends to be a bit lighter up front, especially comparing a gas silverado to a v10 gas ford. 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new silverado aims for high country. introductionthe 2014 chevrolet silverado is the next generation of chevrolet's best-selling vehicle. Although some things look and sound familiar, like the three engines that are all-new despite being the same size as their predecessors, virtually everything has evolved to the next level or been replaced.  substantial bodywork and a larger grille for cooling match a more imposing facade with better aerodynamic properties, while the frame underneath the 2014 silverado has been stiffened despite a 30-pound weight loss. By most measures, the 2014 silverado is lighter than the 2013 model, but it hauls and tows more than before.  the 2014 chevrolet silverado comes with a roomier cabin with more luxury and safety features in a stylish new design. There's more room up front, and 2014 silverado crew cabs offer more space in back than previously. This generally improves rollover crash performance, makes a quieter, less squeak-prone interior and is easier to load in tight quarters. Often reserved for the thirstiest or most expensive engines on some trucks, these come standard on every 2014 silverado.  the new 4. 3-liter v6 is standard on every cab/bed combo. At 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque it rates just 30 less (of each) than last year's 5. 3-liter v8 and out-grunts most competitor base v6s.  the new 5. 3-liter v8 is rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. That's right in line with ford's 5-liter v8, and 2014 silverado crew cabs with the 5. 3-liter v8 match or better competitors for top payload and towing ratings. The 2014 silverado uses electric power steering.  the new silverado drives like a more refined version of the last one, even though it will tow more, go quicker or get better mileage. A very quiet cabin means happier passengers and less fatigue for owner/operators, with the double cab likely to show the most improvement.  the only thing we see lacking in the new silverado is that elusive intangible that grabs people. Chasing power and fuel economy chevrolet used different technologies than ford's ecoboost (though gm's direct-injection turbocharged car engines preceded ecoboost by years). And the new silverado doesn't offer the flashy 8-speed automatic or optional air suspension of the ram. The 5. 3-liter v8 is optional on all cabs. The 6. 2-liter v8 is available on double cab and crew cab models.  silverado wt is the base work truck 23,590). It comes with a 40/20/40 bench front seat, rubber/vinyl floor, black exterior trim, power locks and windows, cruise control, 3. 5-inch info screen, corner step rear bumper, 17-inch steel wheels, six-speaker stereo, 2 usb ports, aux input and sd card slot. 2wt models add on mylink infotainment with 4. 2-inch screen, bluetooth, cd/mp3/sirius xm/hd radio, onstar with six months' directions & connections, remote keyless entry, chrome bumpers and heated power mirrors. Silverado crew cab 1wt 32,710) and 2wt 34,764) are similarly equipped.  silverado crew cab lt 35,260) upgrades to a cloth 40/20/40 front seat with locking storage underneath, leather-wrap steering wheel with audio controls, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and ez-lift and lower tailgate.  silverado crew cab lt z71 36,850) adds off-road suspension calibration with rancho monotube shocks, hill-descent control, all-terrain tires, locking rear differential, skid plate, fog lamps, tow hooks, and a z71 appearance package. Silverado crew cab ltz z71 40,910) adds the z71 equipment. Navigation is optional.  optional equipment is extensive, often progressive (require this, must order that, etc.) and model-limited. A few examples: tri-coat white metallic paint 995), integrated trailer brake controller 230), 5. 3-liter v8 895), locking differential 395), upgrade wheels in tires in 17, 18 and 20-inch sizes, in-bed led lighting 60), leather 1,095), towing package, snow-plow package, navigation, moonroof. A choice of rear axle ratios is available, including 3. 08 and 3. 42.  safety features on all silverado models include dual front airbags, front side airbags, side-curtain airbags, and electronic stability control with trailer sway control. Options include park assist, rearview camera, forward collision and lane departure warnings. walkaroundteasing the bigger-is-better trend, the all-new 2014 chevrolet silverado looks bigger than the last one but is virtually identical in exterior dimensions; for example, it is one-tenth of an inch wider. The most obvious changes are up front and the rear doors.  a taller grille, with more chrome as price rises, and revised bumper allow more powertrain cooling, but with fewer pieces and tighter fits, more aerodynamic than before. The new silverado is instantly identifiable as a chevy even if not wearing the big badge. At least one observer initially thought the 2013 silverado next to it was just a different trim level.  massive rectangular wheel openings consume the majority of the bed side panels and reinforce the gm impression; wider wheels help fill them, but there's still a lot of open space around the tires. This may have negative implications only for tall, very broad shouldered types, but is outweighed by the superior access through the rear door, especially for boots or big toolboxes headed for the floor.  on most models the rear bumper sports a step in each corner and a corresponding handhold in the side rail for easier bed entry. High country's painted bumper loses it, but a chrome step bumper is available. Most versions offer leds under the side rails of the bed, activated by the shower-head bed light switch, for illumination beneath bed covers. A towing mirror option will be available but was not seen nor evaluated.  myriad trims, chrome packages, three wheel diameters, 10 tire choices and plenty of stickers yield many appearance permutations, even before adding accessories. The only parts that might have been pulled straight from the 2103 are the shift lever and some door switches.  a bi. 2004 chevrolet silverado 2500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth ride, but built like a rock. introductiongm has been the leader in full-size pickups for several years running, but is now facing assaults from all directions. Ford has introduced an all-new f-150. Dodge recently re-engineered the ram. Toyota has introduced a tundra crew cab model. And if that isn't enough, nissan has the gall to launch the titan, a full-size pickup that's every bit as big as the domestics, if not bigger. Model year 2004 is the year of the pickup. Those who value a smooth-riding truck with a low load height should take a good hard look at a two-wheel-drive silverado. And those who value style could do worse. Silverado's aggressive looks draw the eye. This truck is not the wallflower it was a couple of years ago.  silverado got an edgy new look last year, along with significant interior improvements and an all-new electrical system designed to improve reliability by drastically reducing the number of wires running all over the place. It's all be streamlined.  new for 2004 is a roomy and comfortable 1500 silverado crew cab in either 2wd or 4wd. (this is a half-ton model that should not be confused with last year's heavy-duty 1500 hd.) there’s more standard equipment in base-level models for 2004, and there's more content in the z71 off-road package.  silverado rides, handles, and stops as well as the best of them. It's quick and it's comfortable. Boxed and hydroformed frame rails give the gm trucks a strong, rigid platform. It is, as chevy says, like a rock. Three trim levels are available: base, ls, and lt, plus a sporty ss. Full-width fleetside beds are standard, but retro sportside beds are offered for selected models. Silverado 1500 models are available with a 4. 3-liter v6, 4. 8-liter v8, or 5. 3-liter v8.  the 2004 silverado comes with more standard features than last year, including cruise control, power door locks, black bodyside moldings, chrome bumpers, uplevel wheels, and an am/fm radio with cd player. New tire choices are available as well. Ss gets a high-performance z60 chassis package; 20-inch wheels and tires; full-time all-wheel drive; a lower, wider stance; and special exterior and interior trim.  silverado options include xm satellite radio, which provides cd-quality broadcast of 100 digital channels coast to coast, and a bose sound system. Crew cab models offer a panasonic dvd passenger entertainment system and rear-seat audio controls. A passenger-sensing system automatically deactivates the passenger-side front air bag under certain conditions to protect children. They look like the determined eyebrows of a marine drill sergeant saying, 'get out of the way, private, i've got work to do.' a large band runs across the middle of the grille punctuated in the middle by a big, gold chevy bow tie. All of this is smoothly integrated into the front end, including the fog lamps and recessed tow hooks. Add the powerful hood and the silverado presents an appearance that's almost menacing. Squared-off wheel openings continue the aggressive theme down the sides of the truck. In the rear are bulging taillamps that maintain the chevrolet family look yet uniquely identify the silverado. Optional puddle lamps mounted beneath the big side mirrors light the ground along the sides of the truck, handy in the woods and in the city. Heavy-duty models have running lights on the roof, tailgate, and leading and trailing edges of bulging rear fenders. They add visibility for improved safety. Indentations stamped into the inner bed walls can hold boards to form bulkhead dividers or a second floor for two-tier loading. The silverado's load floor is 31. 6 inches above the ground on 2wd models, 33. 7 on 4wd. That's relatively low, and low is good when loading heavy cargo. Short-box beds are 78. 7 inches long; long boxes are 97. 6 inches long. Fleetside boxes are 64. 8 inches wide (at the floor); sportside boxes measure 49. 1 inches wide. All measure 50 inches wide between the wheel housings.  a pro-tec composite box is available for silverado 1500 extended cab short box models. Pro-tec is a nearly indestructible material that's lighter and stronger than steel. It never rusts and it resists dents. Pro-tec tailgates can support a lot more weight than steel tailgates. interiorinside, the silverado is roomy and comfortable. The standard front bench seat is comfortable and can seat three, giving extended cab and crew cab models capacity for six people. It’s split 40/20/40, and the middle part of the bench folds down to become a center console armrest. There's lots of head room and plenty of leg room, hip room, and shoulder room. The standard bench is available in cloth or vinyl. Bucket seats are more comfortable and adjust every which way. We like both the premium cloth and the leather. The silverado's seats are big and cushy, but not as comfortable as those in the ram and f-150.  the bucket seats are separated by a deep center console that holds lots of stuff. The top of the lid features a nice rubber-lined indention handy for small items, though it would be even better if the rubber was an insert that could be removed for cleaning. The top of the console is angled forward, which seems unfortunate because clipboards and other items placed tend to slide off. A big coat hook makes picking up the dry cleaning easier.  the instrument panel, redesigned for 2003, features a large speedometer and tachometer. Smaller gauges to the right display oil pressure, water temperature, fuel quantity, and battery charge. Hd models with the heavy-duty trailering package come with a transmission temperature gauge on the left. All use highly legible white-on-black graphics. Headlamps and taillamps turn on automatically when it gets dark. The manually controlled system that comes on base models is a good, straightforward design. Manual sliders are used to adjust the temperature the available electronic climate controls are better, featuring two large knobs for driver and passenger. A large led displays the mode and fan settings. It's a well-engineered system that's s. Power Windows✔ Tachometer✔ Heated Seats✔ Power Locks✔ Bucket Seats✔ Cruise Control✔ AM/FM✔ CD Player
